Whichever feed ingredients you’re looking for, you’ll find that ADM is a leader – and it’s easy to see why. ADM is basic in so many of the key feed ingredient raw materials.

Product Summary

Acidulants
Starting from a variety of carbohydrate substrates, ADM uses its extensive knowledge of fermentation technology to produce citric acid and citrates (sodium and potassium) as well as lactic acid and Arlac® lactates (sodium and potassium). These products impart flavour to feed formulations as well as control pH and sequester metal ions.

Amino Acids
Using ADM’s innovative and large-scale fermentation technology, we manufacture the essential amino acids lysine and threonine. They are critical in the formulation of a variety of diets that optimize performance, while also addressing environmental concerns. By utilizing our comprehensive R and D programmes, we can show you ways to add value with lysine in calf milk replacers and threonine in aquaculture formulations.

Many feedstuffs are low in L-lysine and may require lysine supplementation to make up for the deficiency. In pig feed, lysine (an essential amino acid) can reduce the amount of crude protein in the diet, thereby reducing
nitrogen excretion which can lead to pollution. ADM’s totally bioavailable, 100% isomerically pure product has been used in the feed industry for many years. Within biological systems, lysine aids in protein synthesis, ketogenesis, gluconeogenesis and acid / base balance. ADM lysine is available both as low-dust granules and in liquid form.

ADM’s L-threonine product is 100% L-isomer, which translates into total bioavailability for animals. Threonine is metabolically significant in skeletal muscle growth, digestive enzymes and immune proteins (present at a high concentration), energy sources (via TCA cycle), and is a precursor of glycine. Many grains and other feedstuffs are low in threonine and require threonine supplementation to make up for the deficiency. This is especially critical when using wheat, barley or sorghum as the primary grain sources.

Corn Processing Co-Products

      Corn gluten feed
Studies have found that in beef cattle, dry corn gluten feed has 87.4% of the energy value of corn. Corn gluten feed is low in fat and starch, but high in digestible fibre. The higher neutral detergent fibre and lower acid detergent fibre level indicates a high percentage of hemicellulose, which is highly digestible.

      Corn gluten meal
This high-energy ingredient is approximately 60% protein. Corn gluten meal can be an excellent source of protein and the essential amino acids methionine and cystine. The amino acid digestibility is high, so corn gluten meal is an excellent alternative protein source.

      Corn germ meal
Corn germ meal is an excellent protein and fibre source. It is a very palatable ingredient that contains 21 to 24% protein. It also contains a good amino acid balance.

Corn distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS)
This very palatable product is an excellent source of minerals such as potassium and phosphorus, and B vitamins. DDGS can be a valuable source of fibre with an excellent oil content.

Emulsifiers, Stabilisers and Thickeners
For animal nutrition products, ADM offers the NovaXan™ and NovaBlend™ grades of xanthan gum. Another product utilizing ADM’s extensive fermentation expertise, xanthan gum offers a unique way to effectively increase viscosity, control rheology and suspend particulates in feed product formulations.

From our soya bean processing we offer Nutrilec® liquid lecithin and Ultralec® de-oiled powder and granular lecithins. These products, available as standardized and consistent qualities are excellent emulsifiers, enhancing digestion and the absorption of dietary fats. They can stabilize fat-soluble vitamins as well as reduce the leaching out of water-soluble nutrients.

Lecithins are also good sources of choline, inositol and unsaturated fatty acids.

Fats & Oils
As some of the most energy-rich food groups, fats and oils are particularly essential to animal growth. ADM is one of the few companies to offer you a full line of lipid options including soya bean and rapeseed oils for use in ruminant feeds.

Soya bean oil is a dense energy source that can be used in a variety of feeds. It is a good source of linoleic acid and promotes growth and weight gain. It can also reduce the dustiness associated with some feeds.

Meal

      Soya bean meal
Soya bean meal (de-hulled and 44% protein) is one of the most-used vegetable protein sources today. It is widely available and its amino acid profile fits the amino acid requirements of many animals during all stages of their life. The amino acids in soya bean meal are highly digestible and complement other ingredients to make a balanced diet.

      Soya bean hulls
Soya bean hulls provide an excellent, highly available and economical source of fibre, energy, minerals and protein for livestock diets. They are very palatable and their low lignin content makes them highly digestible to livestock. Soya hulls provide value to beef and dairy cattle because they are readily fermented in the rumen, supplying both energy and protein to the animal. For pigs, soya hulls are a valuable ingredient in many diets. Typically very consistent within the plant, soya hulls are easily handled and available in loose or pellet form. Their fibre is highly digestible, allowing growing and maturing pigs to utilize them as an energy source.

      Rapeseed meal
Rapeseed meal is a natural protein source that complements other ingredients in a wide range of livestock rations. It is also an excellent source of vitamins and has relatively high levels of sulphur-containing amino acids. Rapeseed meal has good handling qualities and is available as meal or pellets. When balanced correctly for energy and digestible amino acids, it can be a major protein source, having a crude protein content in the range 35 to 38%.

      Sunflower meal
Sunflower meal, available with 28%, 30% and 35% crude protein levels, is a palatable ingredient that can be used as a source of supplemental protein. No major anti-nutritional factors are recognized in sunflower protein. Sunflower meal contains less lysine than soya bean meal but more methionine, providing potential advantages for feeding mixtures of the two meals.

      Linseed meal
Linseed meal is one of the oldest feed ingredients. It complements other ingredients in the diet and contains 32 to 34% crude protein. Linseed meal is also valued for its ability to produce a sheen in the appearance of animal coats.

Pigments
Many of today’s consumers want their farmed fish products reared in an environmentally-friendly and sustainable way. Ecotone® astaxanthin, another product from ADM’s broad portfolio of fermentation products, helps meet that need. Ecotone® astaxanthin is a potent pigment source that has been proven to at least match the efficacy of synthetic products.

Soya Proteins
At its major soya production facility in the Netherlands, ADM produces high quality feed-grade soya protein concentrates under the Soycomil® brand name. The Soycomil products are very palatable, with a high protein digestibility and a good amino acid profile. They have a low content of anti-nutritional factors, are pathogen-free and low in indigestible carbohydrates. Soycomil proteins have a neutral taste, light colour and little odour.

Vitamins & Antioxidants
ADM is the world’s number one producer of natural-source vitamin E, which has at least double the bioavailability in the bodies of animals than synthetic vitamin E, thus better supporting overall health. We are also the leading producer of Decanox™ mixed tocopherols, a group of potent antioxidants and shelf life enhancers in feeds and pet foods.
