Lactic Acid
ADM’s fermentation plant making lactic acid from maize consistently produces a very pure product of very high L(+) isomeric purity. ADM lactic acid is the ideal raw material for polymerisation to polylactic acid (PLA), one of today’s new generation of biodegradable plastics. PLA is used to make anything from clear cold-drink beakers to food packaging trays, and after use it rapidly degrades to water and carbon dioxide.
